Awards and Rewards

awards

I spent part of Sunday afternoon catching up on some filing that needed to be done.  As I was going through a few weeks of paperwork I began to reflect on all that has happened in my life lately.

Two weeks ago I had a book release party to celebrate my book; Stepping Up to an On Purpose life! Overcoming life-changing events and the obstacles they create to live the life your desire.  The party was a big success and I had a great time talking to the people who had made an impact on my life since I moved here to Denver two and a half years ago.  At the party I received some nice cards, a framed picture from a friend, and a writers Box with the inscription “The writer must write what he has to say, not speak it.” ~ Ernest Hemingway.  I was overwhelmed with the love and support I received that night from everyone.

Last week I received a certificate from the Better Business Bureau with a Gold Star rating for our company, On Purpose Leadership in the mail.

On Tuesday I received an Award for Male Entrepreneur of the Year at an event here in Denver.  I was shocked when I heard my friend reading to the crowd before he announced the winner of the award.  It was the first time I had ever heard someone reading from my book and it made me feel good to have it shared with my fellow peers.

Thursday I participated in a meeting with a group of amazing people who are working on a big project.

I booked a few speaking engagements, and was a guest on a few radio shows as well.

On top of that I have received five – 5 Star reviews on Amazon.com for my book in the first five weeks since it was published.

Not a bad couple of weeks.

Last night I received an e-mail from someone asking me how I felt after winning the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.  I told her I was surprised and honored to have won the award.  I never considered myself in the running for the award.  In fact, it was snowing that day and I had thought about staying home that night.  I’m glad I decided to go.

This morning, as I sit here putting my thoughts on paper I feel grateful for the awards and recognition.  I couldn’t have done it without the help of hundreds of people who were willing to invest their time and energy in me.  A friend of mine says “It takes a village to grow your business” and I couldn’t agree more.  I wouldn’t have made it this far without their help.

Last Friday I had a meeting with someone who wanted to hire me to coach them.  When I arrived at her office I saw a copy of my book sitting on the table.  She apologized for the book looking a little worn.  It was obvious she had been reading it and from the looks of it she had been carrying it with her for some time.  I told her that it was a compliment to see my book looking like it had been used.  In fact, it was probably one of the best compliments I had received in a long time.

My goal is to find a way to add value to people’s lives every day.  To make some kind of positive impact on their life is my purpose, my passion, my goal.  My reward.

How are you going to add value to someone’s life this week?
